Turkish Artists Panel Discussion at BU Includes Watertown Photographers

The work of Mike Mandel and Chantal Zakari will be included in the exhibit about the iconography of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the father of modern Turkey.

The followning announcement was released by the BU Photographic Resource Center:

This panel discussion is in conjunction with the "7 Turkish Artists" exhibition at Boston University's Photographic Resource Center, exploring how the iconography of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding father of modern Turkey after World War I, permeates and defines Turkey to this day.

The exhibition features the photography of Mike Mandel and Chantal Zakari, artists who spent twelve years in Turkey-a country 99 percent Muslim, yet committed to secularism-exploring the complexity of Atatürk's imagery.  Also on the panel will be Jenny White, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Boston University. We highly recommend attending the exhibition before the panel discussion. A book signing will follow the discussion.
