The Watertown 12U Raiders picked up two more wins in double header action out in Wellesley. Scores of the game were 13-7 in the first contest and 9-5 in the second.
Both Caroline Costa and Destiny Santalucia picked up the wins while Christine MacLeod closed out both games for the saves. The games had some great memorable moments. One of which saw Claire Gabel score a homerun that started out as a walk. After walking to first Gabel saw that the catcher was still holding on to the ball so she broke for second. Wellesley attempted to throw her out and the ball got away. Gabel then took off towards third and rounded towards home. A few moments later - HOMERUN!!
Some defensive highlights saw Catherine Papayannopoulos get all three put outs in one inning at first base. Later in the game she threw out a Wellesley player from the outfield who was trying to steal home from third. Gabel also made a huge out to end an inning that had the Wellesley team threatening. With runners on board the Wellesley player hit the ball a mile high. Gabel called for it while in the outfield and made a huge catch that got Watertown out of the inning.
Every player in the line up touched home plate at least once. Scoring for the 12U Watertown Raiders were Jacqui Schwalm, MacLeod, Costa, Jacquie Furbish, Stephanie Laskaris, Sarah Benites, Santalucia, Stella Papadopoulou, Papayannopoulos, Ashley Nygren, Gabel, Cece Robinson and Kate Myler.
