A 20-year-old Waltham man died Sunday morning in Rockport as he was fishing.
Julio Concepcion, 20, of 103 Felton St., died during a fishing outing to Segal Point near Pebble Beach, according to Essex County District Attorney Spokesman Steve O’Connell.
While authorities don’t know exactly how Concepcion went into the water, O’Connell said he could have slipped or been taken in by a wave. Foul play is not suspected, he said.

Around 9 a.m., Concepcion and a friend were fishing on some rocks when Concepcion somehow ended up in the water, O’Connell said.
“The friend heard him yell and when he turned around, he didn’t see Mr. Concepcion anymore,” O’Connell said.

The friend then called Concepcion’s mother, and the mother then called 911, according to O’Connell. Authorities don’t know why the friend, whom O’Connell didn’t name, called Concepcion’s mother instead of 911, O’Connell said.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene and recovered Concepcion about 100 yards from where he went into the water, O’Connell said. He was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, where he was pronounced dead, O’Connell said. An autopsy is expected to be performed tomorrow at the Office of the Medical Examine in Boston, he said.
“It’s really a shame,” O’Connell said of Concepcion’s death.
