Waltham Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges After Allegedly Attacking his Girlfriend

Man allegedly strangled and hit his girlfriend, and hit her head on a bedpost at their Watertown home.

A Waltham man faces attempted murder charges after he allegedly chocked and injured his girlfriend in the early hours of May 31.

Watertown Police arrested Miguel Angel Davalos, 30, of 236 Lexington St. in Waltham, on charges of attempted murder by strangulation, assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, said Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

According to a police report filed at Waltham District Court, Davalos attacked his girlfriend, after an argument. He allegedly struck her with a closed fist, and then grabbed her around the neck and threw her to the ground. He then allegedly continued choking her.

Davalos lives with his girlfriend and her two children at a home on Lexington Street in Watertown. Davalos is the father of the younger child, according to the report.

The couple was getting ready for bed after having dinner with family and friends when the argument began, according to the police report. The two had been drinking during the dinner.

“As she was getting the children ready for bed, Davalos became argumentative with her regarding past relationships and her care of her children,” Doss wrote.

The girlfriend told Davalos she would not let him physically abuse her anymore, according to the report, and then Davalos began hitting her.

The woman did not recall becoming unconscious and told police she was not sure how she cut her head.

Officers found a lot of blood on a blanket on the bed, near a sharp, squared wooden bedpost, which also had blood on it, according to the report. There was also blood on the ground near the bed.

“Due to the type of wound and close proximity to the corner post, blood on the bed and the pool of blood, I believe (the woman) did hit her forehead on the corner while being brought down to the ground by Davalos, causing severe injury,” Doss wrote.

After the alleged attack, Davalos took off his clothes and ran out of the house. Police searched the area and found him sitting, dressed only in his underwear, in a car in a parking lot on Philip Darch Road.

He would not get out of the car when officers asked him to get out, and began flailing when a police sergeant opened the door. An officer used pepper spray to get him under control, and they arrested him.

Searching the home, officers found a bloody shirt and pair of shorts, which they believe belong to Davalos.

At the Police Station, officers let Davalos sober up. When they talked with him later, he said that he pushed his girlfriend but denied hitting her.

Davalos was arraigned in Waltham District Court on May 31, and was released on $2,500 bail.
