Watertown Fire Log: Aug. 15 to Aug. 21

Tree takes down power line, house flooded by broken hose and smoke in house caused by cooking fire.

Incidents

Aug. 15, 8:36 p.m.: A tree limb appeared to have rubbed through the insulation around an electrical wire on Coolidge Hill Road. The wire began to arc and set the branch on fire. When NStar workers arrived, they found the branch was arcing on a second wire. NStar cut away the branches and restored power to the area.

Aug. 16, 1:54 a.m.: Firefighters responded to a two-vehicle accident on Main Street at Cross Street. One of the drivers refused to get out of her car and said she wanted to make phone calls. When she got out of the car she walked into oncoming traffic, and was almost hit. She refused medical treatment and was told to wait on the sidewalk until police could investigate the incident.

Aug. 16, 3:37 p.m.: Smoke was coming from a second floor window of a house on Edenfield Avenue and Watertown Police broke open the door. They found the smoke was caused by food left on the stove.

Aug. 17, 9:38 a.m.: Smoke was seen coming out of a manhole on Mt. Auburn Street. Firefighters waited at the scene for NStar to come. They found a damaged transformer that needed repair.

Aug. 17, 9:40 p.m.: A man riding his motorcycle on Waverley Avenue hit a car and hurt his head. Paramedics treated him and took him to Beth Israel Hospital.

Aug. 18, 3:58 p.m.: The Fire Department received multiple calls for smoke coming from a four-story apartment complex on Mt. Auburn Street. They found a fire in a cooking pot that had burned the food and began melting the pot.

Aug 19, 3:30 p.m.: A tree became uprooted and landed on an electrical wire at the corner of Winsor Avenue and Belmont Street. When the pole came down it ripped off the electrical wire to a home. NStar came to make repairs.

Aug. 19, 6:26 p.m.: A tree limb was on an electrical wire and it began arcing. After NStar came to remove the wire, firefighters wet down the tree limb.

Aug. 21, 12:09 p.m.: Neighbors reported seeing water coming fro the side of a house on Highland Avenue. Firefighters went into the house through a window and fund a hose had burst under a bathroom sink. Fire crews shut off power because water had poured into the basement through the light fixtures.
