Watertown Fire Log: May 16 to May 22

A man started a fire after lighting his grill with gasoline and a woman went to hospital after both her legs were run over by her car.

Incidents

May 17, 9:41 a.m.: A woman hurt both her legs when she attempted to scan her passcard to get into a building on Mt. Auburn Street. She fell out of the car, and the car rolled over her left shin and right ankle. The Fire Department responded and treated her injuries before taking her to Mount Auburn Hospital.

May 17, 5:50 p.m.: The Fire Department responded to the scene of a two-car, head-on accident on Greenough Boulevard at Arsenal Street. One of the cars was driven by a woman who had her small child with her. The mother suffered minor cuts on her wrist and knees. Crews placed a neck collar and put the woman on a board as a precaution. Her son and the other driver suffered no injuries. The woman was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital.

May 21, 8:07 a.m.: Fire crews arrived at a building on Pierce Road to find that several of the units in the building had 3 inches of water in their basements. The main water shutoff was found and shut off. A Department of Public Works crew looked at the sewers and found a blockage to the main line. Residents were told to contact the condo association.

May 21, 11:26 a.m.: Residents of a building on Piteri Terrace called the Fire Department when they smelled a strong odor of engine exhause and carnbonmonoxide detectors were activated. The cause turned out to be a vehicle running in the garage. The residents were evacuated so the Fire Department could ventilate the building. The went back in when CO levels were safe.

May 21, 7:48 p.m.: A man who tried to speed up the lighting of his charcoal grill by using gasoline started a fire in his driveway. The Fire Department was called, but the resident put out the fire before they arrived.
