Watertown Fire Log: May 9 to May 15

Firefighters assist in reported bomb threat at the mall, man who overdosed on heroin treated, and firefighters help search for cat stuck in wall.

Incidents

May 9, 11:03 a.m.: Sent a fire engine to the Newton Corner Fire Station to provide mutual aid while the Newton Fire Department dealt with a tractor trailer fire on the Mass. Turnpike.

May 9, 11:22 p.m.: The Fire Department assisted the Police Department on a bomb threat at the Arsenal Mall, called in to police. A search of the Arsenal Mall and the Watertown Mall, as a precaution, found nothing. The State Police search dog was called in, but still nothing suspicious was found.

May 10, 8:35 a.m.: Watertown Ladder 1 went to the corner of Arlington Street and Grove Street after a report of low-hanging wire. The wire was pulled tied to the pole.

May 13, 4:58 p.m.: Engine 1 went to an address on Main Street when a man was found unconscious on the bathroom floor, reportedly due to a heroin overdose. Oxygen was given to the patient and Armstrong advanced life support administered narcan. The patient was taken to Mt. Auburn Hospital by Belmont Rescue.

May 13, 10:22 p.m.: Waltham Street residents called to report that their cat was in the walls of their home. Firefighters were told the cat got into a hole in the basement ceiling. At the request of the resident, firefighters opened the wall under the kitchen sink. A faint animal noise was heard. After searching with infrared camera and taking down part of the wall, the cat was found outside the house. The noise likely came from some sort of pest.

May 13, 11:01 p.m.: A Marshall Street resident called to complain about a neighbor having a campfire in their back yard. Firefighters responded and told the people about the state law prohibiting outside burning. The fire was doused.

May 15, 10:19 a.m.: A shopper called to complain about garden shop materials blocking the exit at a business on Arsenal Street. Some plants on a cart were near the exit, but the doors were still accessible. The store manager said he would move the plants immediately. 

May 15, 6:14 p.m.: Firefighters were called to the Arsenal Mall after a shopper complained the overhead roll-down door at The Gap had landed on her foot. When Engine 2 and Recue 1 arrived, the shopper had left the area near the store. She was found on the second floor, and when a police officer began asking questions, she and some friends became argumentative and disrespectful. As they were being escorted downstairs the girls ran toward the other side of the mall, so the fire crews left the mall.
