Watertown Fire Log: Oct. 3 to Oct. 9

A van fire, fire fighters treat man having a heart attack and a boy fell off a jungle gym.

Oct. 4, 6:04 a.m.: A car backed up and hit a street sign on Boylston Street and ended up in the bushes. The driver was not injured and refused treatment from firefighters.

Oct. 5, 5:40 p.m.: Three cars got into an accident on Arsenal Street, and the driver of the first car complained of neck and back pain. The passenger in the second car had a bump on the back of the head. Both were taken to Mount Auburn Hospital. No one was injured in the third car.

Oct. 6, 10:57 a.m.: Three inches of water filled the basement of a home on Brookline Street. Firefighters pumped out the water with a submersible pump, because the residents’ pump did not work.

Oct. 6, 10:57 a.m.: A vehicle caught fire on Whitman Road. Firefighters found a van with smoke coming from the interior of a work van in the driveway. Some rags tucked into the side pocked of a door caught fire, so they were removed and extinguished. The only damage was scorch marks on the inside of the door. The rags had a flammable solvent on them.

Oct. 7, 2:39 p.m.: A boy fell 5 feet off a jungle gym at the Lowell School on Orchard Street. The school nurse said the boy was felling groggy, and the boy was collared and taken to Children’s Hospital Boston with his mother and sister.

Oct. 8, 1:46 p.m.: A man collapsed and was having a heart attack. Firefighters began CPR with the help of police at the scene. They then used the defibrillator four times he was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital.

Oct. 9, 9:05 a.m.: A transformer exploded on Gill Road. Wires that had been connected to the transformer were disconnected and NSTAR was called in to help.
