Watertown Fire Log: Sept. 12 to Sept. 18
Hydraulic fluid leak, man hurts head in bike accident and dog found locked in apartment.

Sept. 12, 9:18 a.m.: Hydraulic fluid leaked out of a cement mixer truck on Lexington Street. The fluid coated a path 10 feet wide and 80 feet long. The spill was tracked to a hydraulic fluid reservoir tank, which contained 10-40 motor oil. Fire officials estimated that 5 to 8 gallons leaked, but none got into the storm drains.
Sept. 12, 6:02 p.m.: Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on Greenough Boulevard. When they arrived, they found an MBTA mini-bus, but it was not on fire. The odor might have come from a brake drum that locked up.
Sept. 13, 9:20 p.m.: Fire crews went to Riverside Street on a call for a child who was not breathing. The kid was breathing when they arrived, so they treated him and sent him to Children’s Hospital.

Sept. 16, 2:44 p.m.: A man riding his bicycle ran into the back of a car and hit his head. He was not wearing a helmet, and suffered a cut about 2.5 inches long. He was treated and taken to Mt. Auburn Hospital.
Sept. 16, 7:31 p.m.: A driver fueling up at a Mt. Auburn Street gas station started driving away while the nozzle was still in the car and the fuel was being pumped. The fuel hose broke, causing some gasoline to spill on the ground. Workers tried to dilute the gas with water. Fire crews came and put down absorbent material.

Sept. 17, 1:14 p.m.: A ladder truck was called to Palfrey Street to help police get into a second floor apartment to check on a dog that had been left in an apartment for days. They found a pit bull, and unlocked the front door so police could get in.
