Watertown High School Honors its Senior Athletes

Outstanding senior athletes were honored at a banquet at Watertown High School.

Watertown High School honored its senior athletes at an awards banquet held at the high school last week. Athletic Director Michael Lahiff gave out awards for the best athletes in a single sport, for sportsmanship and the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.

Outstanding Senior Male Athlete: Giovanni Ortiz

Ortiz earned three letters on the football team and two on the baseball team.

He is the Watertown High School’s first 1,000-yard receiver and first nominee for the Shriner’s Game in 18 years. He was a Middlesex League All Star in football.

Currently, he is leading the baseball team in hitting and is one of the leading hitters in the state. 

 

Outstanding Senior Female Athlete: Erika Kelly

Kelly played four years on the varsity field hockey and softball and five years on the varisty ice hockey team.

She was a Boston Globe and Boston Herald All Scholastic in field hockey and is a two-time Division Two Player of the year.

In ice hockey she was the Co-MVP of the Middlesex League and had scored three goals ore more in 12 games. She was named All Scholastic.

She ends her career third on the all-time scoring list in Watertown history.

 

Outstanding Male Scholar Athlete: Kevin Eskici

Three letters in cross country, three letters in indoor track and three letters in outdoor track.

Eskici is a member of the National Honor Society, and he finished his career with a 4.841 grade point average.

 

Outstanding Female Scholar Athlete: Calista Diehl

Four letters in cross country, three letters in indoor track and three letters in outdoor track.

Diehl is a member of the National Honor Society and she finished her career with a 4.671 grade point average.

 

Outstanding Achievement in a Girls' Team Sport

Kayla Costa - Three letters in field hockey, one in basketball and two in lacrosse.

Lauren Giordano - Four letters in field hockey, five letters in ice hockey, one in softball and two in lacrosse.

 

Outstanding Achievement in a Boys' Team Sport

Michael Busconi - two letters in golf, four letters in ice hockey and two letters in lacrosse.

Alex Hayek - three letters in ice hockey and three letters in baseball.

 

Outstanding Achievement in a Girls' Individual Sport

Lauren Basile - two letters in field hockey, three letters in indoor track and four letters in outdoor track.

Basile was a member of the of the 4 x 100 outdoor and 4 x 200 indoor teams that have gone to nationals.

Talia Flores - one letter in cheerleading, two letters in cross country, four letters in indoor track and four letters in outdoor track.

Flores was a member of the of the 4 x 100 outdoor and 4 x 200 indoor teams that have gone to nationals.

Meaghan Kelly - two letters in field hockey, two letters in indoor track and four letters in outdoor track.

Kelly was a member of the of the 4 x 100 outdoor and 4 x 200 indoor teams that have gone to nationals.

 

Outstanding Achievement in a Boys' Individual Sport

Emilio Alvarez - two letters in soccer, two letters in indoor track and two letters in outdoor track.

Jack Brackett - one letter in football, one letter in cross country, four letters in wrestling and two letters in lacrosse.

 

Girls' Senior Coaches' Award for Sportsmanship

Jamie Russo - four letters in soccer, one letter in indoor track and three letters in outdoor track.

Emma Scavo Alarcon - four letter in soccer and three letters in softball.

Alicia Tardiff - one letter in fall cheerleading, two letters in volleyball, one letter in spring cheerleading, one letter in indoor track and three letters in softball. 

 

Boys' Senior Coaches' Award for Sportsmanship

Dino Flori - two letters in football, three letters in ice hockey and two letters in lacrosse.

Sean McCusker - two letters in football, two letters in ice hockey and two letters in outdoor track.

Justin Pelletier - two letters in golf, four letters in ice hockey and two letters in lacrosse.
