Watertown High School Student to Get Sports Writing Award at Celtics Game

Senior Margaret Antonellis will accept her award at the Will McDonough Writing Contest tonight.

Watertown High School student Margaret Antonellis will report from Thursday night's Boston Celtics game after winning first place in the Will McDonough Writing Contest.

The senior was named first place winner for 12th graders in the eighth annual Will McDonough Writing Contest, named after the late Boston Globe sports columnist.

The contest is designed to encourage the development of language and writing skills while incorporating the topic of sports and concepts such as teamwork, respect, and perseverance, according to a press release. The winners were selected by judges from the Boston Globe, based on how well they organized and expressed ideas and addressed the topic.

Antonellis and the other winners from grades 4 to 12 will attend and report from the Celtics game against the Milwaukee Bucks and will also receive an e-reader. The winning essays will be displayed in the Will McDonough exhibit of The Sports Museum until next year's contest.
