Watertown Man Arrested for Allegedly Selling Marijuana

A police officer spotted the man make a drug deal in the delta at Lexington and Belmont streets.

A Watertown man faces charges of distribution of drugs after being spotted selling a bag of marijuana on the grassy delta at the intersection of Lexington, Belmont and Orchard streets.

On Sept. 1 at 9:19 p.m., a plain-clothed officer spotted two people at the delta, and then saw a third person who he recognized as Joel Figueroa of Watertown, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

The officer saw Figueroa talking on a cell phone, and then looking around before walking to the delta.

“The officer observed Figueroa reach into his pocket and take out an item and exchange it with one of the other individuals,” Lawn said. “The officer then approached them and identified himself as an officer.”

The officer discovered that Figueroa had sold the person a small bag of marijuana, Lawn said.

Figueroa, 20, of 59 Philip Darch Road in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of possession of a Class D substance to distribute, and a drug violation near a park or school, Lawn said.
