Watertown Police Cracking Down on Drunken Drivers

The Watertown Police will join 126 departments across Massachusetts taking part in Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over from Aug. 16 to Sept. 2.

Officers will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers, no matter age, type of vehicle or time of day, according to an announcement from the Watertown Police.

“The number of drivers operating under the influence increases during holiday weekends, especially during the summer,” said Watertown Sgt. David Sampson. “We are intensifying enforcement during this crackdown and will be especially vigilant during nights and weekends when impaired drivers are most likely on the roads.”

Those caught driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances face jail time, fines, suspension or loss of drivers license, increased insurance costs, and mandatory use of an ignition lock.

“The trauma and financial costs of an arrest or crash can destroy your life.  It’s not worth taking the chance,” Sampson said. “We ask that all drivers be responsible and drive sober.”
