Watertown Police Investigating a String of Car Breakins
Two suspects spotted on Poplar Street around midnight on Dec. 11. Cars broken into were in Watertown and Belmont.

A man who spotted two men dressed in black carrying bags led police to a string of vehicle break ins in Watertown and Belmont.
On Dec. 11 at 12:02 a.m., a Poplar Street resident who was out on his deck smoking a cigar spotted the two men when his motion-sensor lights went on, said Police Lt. Michael Lawn.
"He yelled at them and they ran away," Lawn said.

When police searched the area they found an instruction manual for a 2010 Honda Fit and the registration for the car, which was from nearby Vincent Avenue in Belmont.
Watertown Police searched the area and found that two vehicles on Wilson Avenue had been broken into, Lawn said.

The first was a Jeep Cherokee, out of which an iPod, a cell phone charger and $10 in cash were taken.
The second car was a Honda Civic. A pocket knife and a tire gauge were taken from that car.
Police continue to investigate.
