Watertown Police Log: Aug. 15 to Aug. 21

Man tried to pass fake prescription, driver arrested on immigration warrant and teens sold magazines door-to-door without permit.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Watertown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction

Arrests

Aug. 15, 6:01 p.m.: An officer pulled over a car with no inspection sticker and found the driver had no license, said Watertown Police Sgt. Thomas Grady. The driver had a Brazilian license, but police discovered he had given a false name. When they did a search, they found the man was wanted by the Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Gislei Amaro De Oliveira, 37, of 81 Empire St. Apt. 8 in Boston, was arrested on charges of unlicensed driving, no inspection sticker, giving a false name to a police officer and giving a false statement when applying for a car registration. He was turned over to ICE officials.

Aug. 16, 5:32 p.m.: The driver of a 1998 Honda Civic made an illegal left turn on Arsenal Street, Grady. He was stopped and gave the police a Guatemalan driver’s license, and told police he tried to get a Massachusetts license but could not. Juan Dubon Reyes, 27, of 10 Gardner St. Apt. 2 in Waltham, was arrested on charges of unlicensed driving and making an illegal left turn.

Aug. 20, 3:44 a.m.: A man came into CVS on Main Street and put in a prescription for Oxycodone and left while it was being filled, Grady said. The pharmacist became suspicious and called police. When the man returned, police were there. He said that it was for his mother-in-law, but later admitted to police that the prescription was fake. He had a similar charge in New Hampshire. John B. Giacalone Jr., 35, of 25 Johnson Road in Winchester was arrested on charges of uttering a false prescription and the warrant charge out of New Hampshire.

Aug. 21, 5:40 p.m.: An officer spotted a driver drive through a light while the walk signal was on at the corner of Main and Church Streets, Grady said. The 2002 Toyota Highlander was pulled over and the driver gave police an out-of-country license. Heberto M. Martinez, 25, of 18 Liberty St. Apt. 5 in Waltham, was arrested on charges of unlicensed driving and failing to stop.

 

Incidents

Aug. 15, 7:16 p.m.: Two teen-age girls got into an argument when one accused the other of taking the SIM card out of her cell phone, Grady said. The parents got involved and agreed to pay for a new SIM card.

Aug. 16, 7:49 p.m.: A 19-year old said that his bank account had been compromised because $125.55 was missing and he incurred overdraft fees because the money was not there, Grady said.

Aug. 18, 8:04 p.m.: A resident on Dexter Avenue reported a teenager knocking on doors trying to sell magazine subscriptions, Grady said. Police went out and found he was from World Wide Readers Inc., but the company had not registered to solicit town. The manager was contacted and said he did not know he had to register with police. Grady said people should be wary if door-to-door sales do not have proper identification. There have been cases of people doing that to look for homes to rob, Grady said.

Aug. 19, 10:13 a.m.: Taggers spray painted graffiti on the back of the Fluid Management Systems building on Pleasant Street, Grady said.

Aug. 20, 5:54 p.m.: A student at Cortiva Institute on Morse Street discovered that her MacPro laptop computer had been stolen from her storage locker while she was in class, Grady said.

Aug. 21, 1:36 p.m.: A Trek mountain bike was stolen from a home on Emerson Road, Grady said. The older bike was parked in front of the man’s house.
