Watertown Police Log: Feb. 27 to March 4

Woman spits at officer, wedding ring stolen and poop smeared on pickup.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Watertown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. 

Arrests

Feb. 28, 12:55 a.m.: Police spotted a man on a moped spotted weaving around and almost falling over, and when he made an illegal U-turn he was pulled over, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. The officer performed field sobriety tests and placed the man under arrest. Nicholas A. Weston-Swan, 28, of 16 Bayard Ave. Apt. 3 in Boston, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, marked lanes violation and making an illegal U-turn.

Feb. 28, 8:34 p.m.: Police were called to Prospect Street for a domestic disturbance, Lawn said. Bassem M. Awad, 43, of 84 The Fenway Apt. 22 in Boston, waas arrested on two counts of domestic assault and battery and one count of intimidating a witness for taking the phone away from the person.

Feb. 29, 10:28 p.m.: Police were called to Melendy Avenue for a domestic disturbance, and they discovered the suspect had three arrest warrants in his name, Lawn said. Robert A. Bailey, 30, of 9 Marion St. Apt. C in Roslindale, was arrested on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon for swinging an umbrella at someone, and three warrants – one from Boston District Court for assault and battery, the second from Roxbury District Court for aggravated assault and battery, intimidating a witness and larceny of over $250, and the third from West Roxbury District Court for assault and battery on a public employee, interfering with a bus drive and carrying a dangerous weapon.

March 1, 9:07 p.m.: Police went to Gilbert Street on the report of a domestic disturbance, Lawn said. Alaa A. Mourad, 49, of 28 Gilbert St. in Watertown was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery and intimidating a witness.

March 2, 11:29 p.m.: An officer on Main Street heard the sound of screeching tires coming from Galen Street and then saw a Dodge Van make a turn onto Main Street, swerving between lanes, Lawn said. The van finally stopped when it went up on the curb of the sidewalk in front of CVS. Field sobriety tests were given and an open container of alcohol was found in the van. Sarah K. Caliri, 32, of 18 Common St. in Natick, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, marked lanes violation, unlicensed driving and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

March 4, 7:15 p.m.: At 3:50 p.m., police were called to Eliot Street near Galen Street on a report of a drunken woman walking up and down the street yelling, but they couldn’t find her, Lawn said. A few hours later they got a similar report from Union Street, one street from Eliot, and they found a woman on the porch of a home. Officers detected alcohol on her breath and when they tried to get her to leave she became belligerent and yelled at the officers. She was placed under arrest after officers tried to calm her numerous times, and in the process she spat in an officer’s face. Erin M. Barry, 23, of 64 Centre St. in Roxbury, was arrested on charges of assault and battery on a police officer and disturbing the peace.

March 4, 2:52 a.m.: Police were called to Bates Road for a domestic disturbance, Lawn said. Harley J. Easton, 33, of 30 Bates Road in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon for attacking a person with a plastic stool.

March 4, 3 p.m.: When police were investigating a report of a stolen bicycle they discovered a man had an outstanding arrest warrant, Lawn said. Patrick A. Annese Jr., 45, of 204 North St. in Newton, was arrested on a warrant out of Lowell District Court for failing to appear for jury duty.


Incidents

Feb. 27, 5:38 p.m.: A mechanic working at AAA Auto Clinic on Main Street heard a loud noise and found that a class panel on the garage door was broken, Lawn said. Police do not know what or who broke the glass.

Feb. 28, 6:23 p.m.: The first floor resident of a three-story home on Mt. Auburn Street discovered someone had broken a front window and went into the house, Lawn said. Papers were found on the floor and drawers open, but nothing appeared to be missing. A resident on the third floor said she heard a noise between 2 and 4 p.m. and saw a white male between 40 and 50 years of age, skinny, six-feet tall and the man said he was looking for “Maria from Salem.”

Feb. 28, 8:25 p.m.: A woman told police she was stopping at Target on Feb. 26 and she afterward discovered her bag was missing, Lawn said. She was missing credit cards, cash and a cell phone. She later discovered someone tried to use the credit card, and the wallet was fond in the Charles River Apartments in Alston with some of her items in it.

Feb. 29, 6:13 a.m.: Someone broke the rear window of a car in the driveway of a home on Common Street, Lawn said. Police do not know what or who broke the window.

March 1, 10:05 a.m.: A woman discovered a diamond wedding ring was missing from a jewelry stand in her home, Lawn said.

March 1, 5:07 p.m.: A woman said she discovered $200 went missing from her wallet when she was shopping at Target, Lawn said.

March 2, 8:53 p.m.: A Barnard Avenue resident discovered someone wiped feces on the rear window and canvas bed cover of his 2005 Chevy pickup truck, Lawn said.

March 4, 6:23 p.m.: Three juvenile females were seen shoplifting at Target and getting onto an MBTA bus, Lawn said. Police were able to get on the bus and locate the suspects, who had taken $70.12 worth of items. Two 15-year-old girls and one 16-year-old girl, all from Waltham, will be summonsed to Waltham District Court for shoplifting.
