Watertown Police Log: June 27 to July 3

Man arrested after kicking an officer, argument at Halfway Cafe escalates and a string of car break-ins.

June 27, 7:08 p.m.: Watertown Police served a warrant on a man living on Prospect Street. Police arrested Joseph H. Kweis, 34, of 76 Prospect St. in Watertown, on a warrant out of Concord Distrct Court for not paying fines on a driving under the influence of alcohol charge, said Watertown Police Sgt. Thomas Grady.

June 29, 12:17 p.m.: Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Franklin Street, Grady said. Francesca Pizzuto, 22, of 43 Franklin St. in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

June 29, 2:21 p.m.: Police went to the Arsenal Mall after receiving a report that a man was violating a restraining order by trying to visit someone who worked at the mall. The man did not cooperate when police tried to remove him, Grady said. Leonard Ray Jenkins, 109 Tremont St. Apt. 214 in Brighton, was arrested for violating a restraining order, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

June 30, 1:26 p.m.: An officer directing traffic on a road work detail on Mt. Auburn Street spotted a man he knew had a arrest warrant in his name for possession of a Class E drug, which is usually prescription drugs, Grady said. The officer arrested Gregory Gardner 28, of 51 Morse St. in Watertown, on the warrant out of Waltham District Court.

July 2, 3:54 p.m.: A 16-year-old girl from Boston was caught trying to steal items from Target, Grady said. The girl was arrested on a charge of shoplifting by concealment of items worth more than $100.

July 2, 9:55 p.m.: A man was yelling at passing cars on Main Street at Whites Avenue. Police responded and found that the man appeared to be intoxicated, Grady said. When they tried to arrest the man, he threatened the officers and kicked one, Grady said. The officer did not suffer an injury. Thomas B, Lydon, 38, of 22 Green St. in Watertown, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, threatening to commit a crime and assault and battery on a police officer.

June 27, 8:32 p.m.: A garden gnome statue was broken on the front lawn of a home on Cypress Street, Grady said.

June 27, 9:28 p.m.: A man got into an argument with two other men at the Halfway Café on Main Street. The two men left the restaurant and when they were trying to drive away the first man came out and confronted them again. When they drove away, the man hit the windshield and cracked it, Grady said.

June 28, 11:15 a.m.: A woman who went to the St. Patrick’s Church parish offices believes her wallet was taken from her bag while she was there, Grady said.

June 28, 8:15 p.m.: A man came to police to report that on the evening of June 2, someone stole some shirts, jeans, a T-shirt and a towel while he was doing laundry at West End Laundrymat, Grady said.

June 29, 8:53 a.m.: A man was seen taking metal from a construction site. The metal was not being thrown away, Grady said.

June 29, 3 p.m.: The grounds crew at Mt. Auburn Cemetery discovered that two cast-iron street signs were stolen from the cemetery. They cost $300 each to replace, Grady said.

June 29, 4:41 p.m.: Someone broke into a home on Waltham Street, and the resident believed it may have been a former roommate trying to take some items, but nothing was missing, Grady said.

June 29, 9:58 p.m.: A 1992 Honda Accord in a parking lot on Nichols Avenue was broken into and a child safety seat was taken, Grady said.

June 30, 8:57 a.m.: An employee at Convenience Plus on School Street discovered a glass door and glass window had been shattered, Grady said. No one got into the store.

June 30, 8:10 p.m.: A 1994 Honda Accord was vandalized on Buick Street, Grady said. A resident saw some teens in the area, and thought they may be responsible.

July 1, 7:13 a.m.: A pane of glass in a lamp was broken at a home on Quincy Street. A rock found nearby may have been the cause, Grady said.

July 1, 9:52 a.m.: A car on Franklin Street was broken into and the owner discovered a box with $100 in change and a ring of keys with addresses written on them were missing, Grady said. The car had been left unlocked.

July 1, 3:06 p.m.: A man parked his landscaping truck at his home on Boyd Street and the next morning he discovered a Red Max 7000 backpack blower was missing, Grady said.

July 1, 3:45 p.m.: A 2009 Nissan Altima parked on Center Street was broken into and an iPod Touch with an adaptor and a Garmin GPS were taken, Grady said.

July 1, 5:15 p.m.: An Old Navy employee reported that her Samsung Vibrant phone and her iPod were taken from a bag while she was working, Grady said.

July 1, 5:43 p.m.: A license plate was stolen from a vehicle at Lexus of Watertown in December, Grady said. They reported it to police on July 1.

July 1, 6:06 p.m.: The owner of a 2010 Honda CRV reported that his Garmin GPS device was stolen from his car, Grady said.

July 1, 11:33 p.m.:  A 2005 Toyota Sienna parked on Center Street was broken into and two cell phone chargers were taken, Grady said.

July 2, 11:26 p.m.: A 1998 Ford Econoline Van parked at Pirolli and Sons on Arsenal Street was vandalized, Grady said. A lock on the van was broken off, probably using a fire extinguisher that was found nearby.

July 2, 6:24 p.m.: The door of a 2006 Mitsubishi Gallant was scratched while it was parked on Hersom Street, Grady said.

July 3, 6:05 p.m.: The door to the building near the spray park in Filippello Park was tagged by vandals using spray paint, Grady said.
