Watertown Police Log: May 28 to June 3

Man arrested on OUI after driving up on curb, two shoplifters caught and engagement ring stolen.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Watertown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Arrests

May 30, 12:59 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Main Street spotted a red Ford Explorer drift over across the yellow line and then back over, nearly striking the curb, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. The driver was pulled over and the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol. Field sobriety tests were given, and the driver was arrested. Domingo A. Alvarado, 43, of 56 Riverdale St. Apt. 1 in Allston, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, a second offense; and marked lanes violation.

May 30, 1:43 a.m.: Police were called to Elm Street for a domestic disturbance, Lawn said. Ashley E. Fitzgerald, 21, of 69 Elm St. in Watertown, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery and intimidating a witness.

May 30, 1:25 p.m.: A man allegedly tried to take a DVD from by putting it down the back of his pants and leaving without paying, Lawn said. James M. Tocchio, 37, of 46 Pine St. in Hanover, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting by concealing merchandise.

May 30, 4:45 p.m.: security stopped a man after he picked up a power drill worth $179, walked around the store and tried to leave without paying, Lawn said. James B. Bradley, 35, of 54 Trowbridge St. Apt. 1 in Arlington, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting over $100 by asportation.

June 2, 1:58 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Mt. Auburn Street when he spotted a black Dodge drive up on the curb and almost strike a telephone pole, Lawn said. The driver was pulled over and the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol. Field sobriety tests were given and the driver was arrested. Joaquim R. Bradley, 19, of 12 Green Meadow Drive in Acushnet, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to drive in marked lanes.

June 3, 10:39 p.m.: Police were called to Winsor Avenue for a domestic disturbance, Lawn said. Thomas Chagias, 41, of 165 Winsor Ave. in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery on a person age 60 or older and abusing a prevention order.

 

Incidents

May 28, 9:18 a.m.: The owner of a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle parked it in an open garage and came out the next morning and found it was gone, Lawn said.

May 29, 2:59 p.m.: Sometime between May 16 and May 27, an engagement ring was taken from a home on Spruce Street, Lawn said. It was custom made gold ring with one diamond and two blue sapphires, and it was taken from a jewelry box in a bedroom. There were no signs of forced entry.

May 29, 3:18 p.m.: A Perry Street resident put two fishing rods on the driveway of his home. He left briefly and when he went back a few minutes later they were gone, Lawn said. They were worth $250 each.

May 31, 9:54 a.m.: The owner of Benny’s Moving and Storage said one of his employees took a truck without permission and did not come back, Lawn said. Later, the truck was found at Emerald Square Mall in Attleboro, and was recovered. It contained several items that had been scheduled to be delivered. A warrant from Waltham District Court will be issued for a 43-year-old man form East Providence, R.I., for using a motor vehicle without authority and larceny over $250, Lawn said.

May 31, 12:47 p.m.: The front driver’s side window of a 1991 Honda was smashed when it was parked in front of a Nichols Avenue home, Lawn said. It was unclear what broke the window, and nothing was reported missing.

May 31, 1:30 p.m.: A truck driver delivering alcohol to Gordon’s Liquors on Watertown Street discovered someone took a case of Kettle One vodka worth $295.94, Lawn said.

May 31, 9:27 p.m.: A wallet was reported missing by a person who was shopping at Target the previous day, Lawn said. The woman used a credit card to pay, and found the wallet was gone. Target located the wallet, but credit cards and a debit card were gone.

June 1, 2:40 p.m.: Workers at Reit Management and Research on Galen Street reported that 9 or 10 laptops were stolen from a storage closet, Lawn said. The HP laptops were worth $800 each. Police are investigating.

June 1, 9:35 p.m.: A man heard a loud noise from outside his home on Winter Street, and when he looked outside he saw kids running away on Winter Street, Lawn said. Something made a hole in a white fence. The kids were located and the incident is being investigated.
