Watertown Police Log: Oct.17 to Oct. 23
Fugitive arrested in Watertown, shoplifters caught and purse stolen from a home.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Watertown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Arrests
Oct. 17, 9:07 p.m.: A woman was spotted taking clothing from Aeropostale at th Arsenal Mall, and when mall security caught her she admitted to taking the shirts as well as perfume from Victoria’s Secret, said Watetown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. Marie A. Costa, 36, of 7 Clinton Ave. in Saugus, was arrested on charges of shoplifting by concealment and receiving stolen property worth less than $250.

Oct. 19, 12:26 p.m.: Police spotted a man wanted for a parole violation using a pay phone on Main Street, Lawn said. Jamie Hernadez, 31, of 25 Acton St. in Watertown, was arrested on a warrant for violating parole.
Oct. 20, 2:07 a.m.: Police were called to Carver Road East for a domestic disturbance after a man reportedly pushed a screen door against another person, Lawn said. Nicholas Peter Verrochi, 18, of 54 Carver Road East, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a screen door.

Oct. 20, 2:24 p.m.: An officer on patrol spotted a man known for having a warrant out for his arrest at a bus stop in front of Dunkin Donuts on Main Street, Lawn said. Mark E. Williams, 27, of 9 Colonial Ave. in Waltham, was arrested on a warrant out of Lawrence District Court for trespassing.
Oct. 20, 8:49 p.m.: A woman was stopped by Watertown Police for speeding on North Beacon Street, Lawn said. The officer discovered she had a warrant for her arrest. Kathleen Elizabeth Cook of 70 Montcalm Ave. Apt. AV in Brighton, was arrested on a warrant from Boston District Court for malicious destruction of property worth more than $250.
Oct. 21, 5:42 p.m.: Police received a call about a car parked in a westbound lane on Arsenal Street, and an officer found a man asleep behind the wheel, Lawn said. They indentified the man as Jose L. Pratt, 52, of 39 Chelsea St. Apt 4L in East Boston. The officer detected an odor of alcohol, and also discovered a fugitive from justice warrant for Pratt out of Cook County, Ill., for assault with a dangerous weapon and drug offenses, Lawn said. Pratt was arrested on a driving under the influence of alcohol charge, and the Cook County Sheriff’s office was alerted and will come to take him back to Illinois.
Oct. 22, 8:40 p.m.: Police got a tip that two men with outstanding warrants were staying on Morton Street, Lawn said. They arrested Edward Thomas Mann, 58, of 25 Morton Street Apt. B in Watertown, on a warrant from Somerville District Court for breaking and entering in a building and trespassing. Patrick D. Ready, 31, of 48 Cedar Street in Wellesley, was arrested on two warrants out of Newton District Court, one for two counts of assault and battery and the second for malicious destruction of property worth over $250, receiving stolen property worth over $250 and driving with a suspended license.
Oct. 23, 5:29 p.m.: An officer on patrol on Sycamore Street spotted a driver run a stop sign, Lawn said. Nicholas A. Scheff, 27, of 269 Union St. in Peterborough, N.H., was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license and failing to stop.
Incidents
Oct. 17, 4:02 p.m.: A 19-year old woman from Roxbury was caught trying to take women’s and infant clothing from Target without paying, Lawn said. The total value of the clothes was $144. Target security told police they would handle the incident internally.
Oct. 18, 3:51 p.m.: Best Buy security spotted a man take two phones out of their boxes and conceal them before trying to leave, Lawn said. Security guards tried to stop the man, but he pushed past them and ran toward Elm Street. The suspect is a Hispanic man, around 5-foot-10, has a pencil mustache and wore a black trench coat and jeans.
Oct. 18, 5:57 p.m.: Downey Street residents reported that someone threw a rock at their window, and broke a screen and cracked the glass, Lawn said.
Oct. 19, 8:20 a.m.: The Urell Co. on Coolidge Avenue reported that someone broke the lock off a door to a trailer used when they go to sales shows, Lawn said. Nothing appeared to be missing.
Oct. 19, 3:17 p.m.: Someone took 350 feet of copper welding lead — worth $350 — from a construction site at Perkins School for the Blind, Lawn said.
Oct. 20, 2:54 a.m.: A Waverley Avenue resident woke up in the middle of the night and noticed that her purse was gone from the couch, where she had last left it, Lawn said. She found a window slightly open and she believes someone broke in. She is missing her wallet, credit cards, her driver’s license and some cash.
Oct. 20, 7:47 p.m.: A woman was spotted taking two portable hard drives into the bathroom and put them in her pocket, Lawn said. The suspect is a 49-year-old Brookline woman.
Oct. 21, 7:51 a.m.: A Watertown High School student told the School Resource Officer he is missing his 4G iPhone, Lawn said. He put it in his locker when he was in gym class on Oct. 10, and when he came back it was gone. The locker was left unlocked.
