Watertown Police Log: Sept. 26 to Oct. 9

Man tried to speed away from police to avoid OUI and woman bit a man and had an unlicensed shotgun.

Sept. 28, 9:49 p.m.: Police served a warrant on Galen Street, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. Roberto D. Castro, 30, of 155 Galen St. in Watertown, was arrested on a warrant for traffic offenses out of Waltham District Court.

Sept. 30, 12:28 a.m.: An officer spotted a 2006 BMW speeding on Arsenal Street and revving its engine, Lawn said. The officer stopped the car and detected a strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. Field sobriety tests were given. Manuel J. Alvarenga, 36, of 10 Riverside St. Apt. G2 in Watertown was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.

Sept. 30, 8:53 a.m.: Police were called to Merrifield Avenue for a disturbance, Lawn said. Kara Ann Snellman, 30, of 29 Merrifield Avenue in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of violating an abuse prevention order.

Oct. 1, 3:35 a.m.: Police were called to Philip Darch Road with for a disturbance, and when they got there they discovered one of the people involved had an warrant out for their arrest, Lawn said. Debora S. Mendez, 28, of 49 Philip Darch Road in Watertown, was arrested on a warrant for assault and battery out of Newton District Court.

Oct. 1, 7:02 p.m.: Police went to California Street on a report of a domestic disturbance, Lawn said. Wen Y. Chiang, 53, of 68 California St. in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

Oct. 2, 4:33 p.m.: An officer on patrol ran the plate of a car in front of him and found that the driver had a suspended license, Lawn said. Angel Dias, 42, of 95 Grove St. in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

Oct. 4, 8:25 p.m.: Police went to Highland Avenue for a disturbance call, Lawn said. Thomas P. Forbes, 50, of 44 Highland Avenue, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

Oct. 6, 12:16 p.m.: Police were called to Fayette Street for a domestic disturbance, Lawn said. Rafael Velasquez, 47, of 210 Fayette Street in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

Oct. 6, 3:39 p.m.: Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Avon Road, Lawn said. James K. Sims-Wright, 24, of 21 Avon Road in Watertown, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

Oct. 7, 11:28 p.m.: Police went to Warren Street after neighbors called in a domestic disturbance, Lawn said, and discovered that a woman had bit a man twice. Officers found she had an unloaded shotgun for which she did not have a firearms identification card. Alison L. Gidden, 38, of 1451 Pleasant View Road in Richford, Vt., was arrested on two counts of assault and batter and possession of a firearm without an FID Card.

Oct. 8, 12:54 a.m.: An officer on Warren Avenue spotted car speeding and when the officer put his lights on the car sped away, Lawn said. The car made a number of turns and the officer lost him around Fayette and Forest streets, but the officer spotted it parked on Cozy Street. When he approached, the officer saw the front seat was down and the driver was slouched down. When he talked to the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol on his breath. Field sobriety tests were given and the Jesse A. Wallace, 32, of 6 Fuller Road in Watetown, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving, speeding and failing to stop for police.

 

Incidents

Sept. 27, 8:53 p.m.: The owner of Salon Sama found that someone had taken copper fuses out of an outside electrical panel, Lawn said.

Sept. 29, 10:18 p.m.: A man ordered an iPhone 4 on eBay and it didn’t arrive when he expected, Lawn said. The post office had delivered it on Sept. 26, but it was not at his door.

Sept. 30, 4:59 p.m.: A 2010 Nissan Sentra was keyed all the way around the vehicle, Lawn said. It was parked at Emerson Village.

Oct. 30, 7:07 p.m.: A recliner was left on the porch of a house on Morse Street being renovated, Lawn said. The following day it was gone.

Oct. 1, 3:12 p.m.: A woman said her estranged ex-husband came to her home on Philip Darch Road and tried to get in, Lawn said. When he could not get in, he hit the rearview mirror of her car with his motorcycle helmet and damaged it. A summons was put out for a 28-year-old Newton man.

Oct. 2, 8:44 p.m.: A 15-year old girl said a man came up from behind and put her in a bear hug while she was walking in Moxley Park, Lawn said. She wriggled free and the man ran away. The man was described as six feet tall and wore a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

Oct. 3, 9:33 p.m.: A Fayette Street resident found a rear window open and the screen pushed in when he came home from work, Lawn said. There were no signs that anyone got into the home.

Oct. 4, 7:26 a.m.: A custodian at Lowell School found that someone had damaged about 50 feet of fence at the school, and poles holding it up had been bent, Lawn said.

Oct. 4, 5:39 p.m.: The owner of a 2002 Hyundai parked on Oakland Street found that the car had been damaged three times: once on the driver’s side door panel, once on the bumper, and once on the hood, Lawn said.

Oct. 5, 7:06 p.m.: A woman said she suspects her ex-husband came into her apartment on Philip Darch Road and took her keys and then took items out of her car, Lawn said. Missing were a watch, a ring and prescription drugs.

Oct. 6, 7:20 a.m.: Someone cut the lock off a container at a worksite on Grove Street and took a generator worth $2,000, Lawn said.

Oct. 6, 7:38 p.m.: The owner of a 1998 Toyota parked on Evans Street found that his wallet was on the floor and $380 in cash was missing, Lawn said. The car was left unlocked.

Oct. 7, 10:01 p.m.: Someone broke into a 2011 Subaru parked on Knowles Road and an iPod was taken from the car, Lawn said. The car was left unlocked.
