Watertown Police to Participate in No Shave November

MBTA police started the "No Shave November" first responder initiative last year and raised $15,000.

WATERTOWN, MA — The beard craze will hit the Watertown Police Department during the month of November, but for officers, it's about more than just looks.

Watertown police will participate in the "No Shave November" first responder initiative. The initiative will benefit Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program that helps veterans and their families heal from TBI, PTSD and related conditions.

Officers who pledge a minimum donation of $100 will be granted a month-long waiver from the department policy restricting facial hair growth. The "No Shave November" initiative was started by the MBTA Transit Police last year, and raised $15,000. Boston, Foxborough, Reading and Tewksbury departments will also be participating.
