Watertown's Donovan Named Principal at a Newton Elementary School

The current interim assistant superintendent and former principal of Lowell School will start her new job in July.

Newton Public School officials named Watertown Interim Assistant Superintendent Dari Donovan as the new principal of .

Newton Superintendent David Fleishman told the Newton School Committee about Donovan's appointment at Monday's meeting, Newton Patch reports. Donovan will replace current Lincoln-Eliot Interim Principal Greg Hurray, who will retire at the end of this school year. 

In a Feb. 15 memo, Fleishman made Donovan's appointment official, noting her experience as both a teacher and an administrator.

"Throughout the search, Dari impressed us with her instructional leadership ability, communication skills, and keen focus on the academic and emotional needs of students," Fleishman said in the memo. "In addition, she has demonstrated a capacity for leadership that is characterized by collaboration, flexibility and sensitivity."

Prior to her position as Watertown's interim assistant superintendent, Donovan was principal at the Lowell Elementary School in Watertown.

Donovan will officially begin her position in Newton on July 1, 2012. 

Donovan is the second Watertown administrator to recently move to Newton Public Schools; last spring .
