Woman Receives Counterfeit $20 Bills When She Returned Items to Home Depot
The woman discovered they were fake when she tried to use them at a gas station.

A woman received 12 $20 bills when she returned items to Home Depot in Watertown, and when she tried to use the later that day she found out they were counterfeit.
The woman returned $250.52 worth of merchandise on Sept. 24, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.
“They were asked if they wanted $100s, $50s or $20s, and they told them they would like $20s,” Lawn said. “An employee took 12 $20 bills from a cellophane envelope.”

Later in the day, the woman went to a gas station in Hooksett, N.H., and was told the bills were counterfeit, Lawn said.
Police continue to investigate the incident, Lawn said.
