WAYLAND, MA — A child suffered life-threatening injuries and an adult was also injured when a tree fell at a Wayland summer camp Tuesday morning.
Wayland police and firefighters responded to Camp Chickami, 139 Boston Post Road, at approximately 10:40 a.m. following a report that people had been struck by a tree, according to town officials.
First responders found the child with life-threatening injuries and the adult with less serious injuries.
A Wayland Fire Department ambulance took the child to a landing zone at Town Hall. A medical helicopter then transported the child to a regional trauma center.
The adult was transported to a local hospital by a Weston Fire Department ambulance.
Police and fire officials are investigating the incident. No additional information about the circumstances was immediately released.
YMCA Camp Chickami is a traditional day camp on wooded property bordering conservation land. The camp serves children entering grades one through 10.
