WAYLAND, MA — Wayland has received state funding to plan wastewater improvements to support new housing and economic development.
The $495,000 MassWorks Infrastructure Program grant will fund the design and engineering work needed to address wastewater infrastructure constraints in Wayland's MBTA Communities district and Town Center, Gov. Maura Healey announced Thursday. The proposed improvements would support approximately 106 new homes, including affordable housing, as well as commercial development.
The grant, listed as the "MBTA District Capacity" project, was awarded to the Town of Wayland through the FY 2027 Community One Stop for Growth program.
Wayland's award was part of $330 million distributed for more than 400 housing and economic development projects across Massachusetts. The state said the funding will support infrastructure work, downtown improvements, site preparation and other local development efforts.
The Community One Stop for Growth is overseen by the state Executive Office of Economic Development and combines more than a dozen grant programs into one application process for municipalities and organizations.
"These awards will turn underused properties into new homes and businesses, strengthen downtowns, create good jobs and unlock billions of dollars in private investment," Gov. Healey said in the announcement. "That means more opportunity for families, workers and businesses in every part of our state."
