Join Arts Wayland, in association with First Parish in Wayland, for The Chris Nifong Project on Sunday, November 15, at 3 PM at First Parish, 225 Boston Post Road, Wayland. Tickets are $20 and available at artswayland.com. Students are free when accompanied by a paying adult. The Berklee College Faculty Jazz Series is under the direction of Neil Olmstead, Professor Emeritus of Piano, Berklee College of Music.
The Chris Nifong Project (CNP) is a six-piece jazz-fusion group playing original compositions by its leader and selectively curated jazz, rock, and blues tunes. Inspired by personal experiences like a trip to Cadillac Mountain in Maine, or the end of a beautiful Vermont summer day, Chris’s pieces reflect the solace of nature in combination with the intensity and fire of contemporary improvised music.
Driven by a reverence for virtuoso guitar technique and a love of melody, Chris’s repertoire references Mike Stern, Allan Holdsworth, John Scofield, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. For this project, Chris has surrounded himself with nationally known instrumentalists Mark Snyder on bass, Peter Bell on guitar, Bruce Nifong on saxophone, Neil Olmstead on keyboards, and Todd Rhodes on drums. Between them, they have shared the stage with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, The Gary Burton Quartet, Jimmy Guiffre, and The Moody Blues, among others.
