WAYLAND, MA — The two local sisters who helped save a woman's life on a Florida-bound flight received the Boston Celtics' top honor recently.

Wayland firefighter and paramedic Lindsay Byrne and her sister, Nicole Kelly, a nurse at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, received the team's Heroes Among Us award at a game on Friday.

The sisters were flying from Boston to Florida on Aug. 1 when flight attendants asked for help after a passenger was found unconscious in a bathroom.

Byrne and Kelly found the woman with a low pulse, gray skin and shallow breathing. They knew the woman was likely experiencing a diabetic emergency, and so they sat her up and fed her sugar packets. A firefighter from Florida was also on the flight and helped with the medical assessment.

The woman has since made a full recovery, according to the Wayland Fire Department.

The Celtics Heroes Among Us award honors locals "who have made an overwhelming impact on the lives of others," according to the team. On top of getting the award, Byrne and Kelly stood in the spotlight at center court at the TD Garden during Friday's game.
