Dignity Matters Supplies Feminine Hygiene Products To Women In Need

This Wayland-based charity supplies tampons, pads and bras to women in need in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

WAYLAND, MA — It's a need few think about when deciding how they can help. This organization, based and founded in Wayland, recognized the need and they're doing something about it.

Dignity Matters, as posted on its website, is a nonprofit organization that supplies feminine hygiene products and underwear to women who are homeless or otherwise in need, in order to help them stay healthy, regain self-confidence, and live with basic dignity.

"It is hard to imagine, but there are women in your community and almost every community in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, who cannot afford these necessities," writes the organization. "These women are often homeless and they are commonly single mothers, low-income mothers, or women and teens who escaped domestic violence and cannot safely return home. Homeless women, every month face the humiliating reality of no access to tampons or pads. Their dilemma of having to choose between buying food to survive or tampons is common. "

Why homeless women DESPERATELY need tampons, pads and bras, via Dignity Matters:

  1. They are rarely donated to charities
  2. Food stamps do not cover them
  3. Asking strangers for sanitary products is humiliating
  4. Most shelters cannot cope with the demand for these items (indeed, tampons and pads are needed every month) .

January donations, among other shelters, benefit women at Sage House in Framingham, MA.
