Nature Memories Workshop

Rabbi Katy Allen of Ma'yan Tikvah will lead a workshop in nature journaling of both past memories and present experiences that includes connecting our memories to texts that give meaning to our lives also brings healing.

The workshop will begin with an introduction to nature journaling and an exploration of existing nature journals. We will then remember experiences in nature from our childhood and adolescence, record these memories through words and/or drawings, and connect the memories to poetry, writings, or other meaningful texts. We will take a meditative walk through nearby woods or fields, watching, listening, and then recording – through words, drawings, or photographs – the sights and sounds that grab us. After the walk, we will explore connections between our childhood memories and our experiences during this walk or another recent experience of nature, and we will add these to our nature journals. Volunteers may share memories and reflections on the day's experience.

Participants are invited to bring cameras, personal drawing materials, favorite books of poetry, nature writing, sacred text, or anything else that may add to or enrich their experience or their journal entry.
