WAYLAND, MA — Welcome to the July 26 edition of Monday Minute, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a fun local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.

This week we're starting in Wayland, which has a bit of a rivalry over having the nation's first public library. Franklin claims to have been the first in the U.S., created in 1790 when the town received a donation of Benjamin Franklin's books. Wayland's library started out at a church in 1796 and by 1848 had grown so large it needed its own building.

1) Wayland

On Wednesday, Andrew Reed, 29, who grew up in Wayland, will compete in the Olympics with the U.S. men's rowing team in the men's four event. Check out the Tokyo Olympics website for event times.

2) Marlborough

Tickets for the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest's 2021 Bids For Kids gala go on sale Sunday. The event is planned for October.

3) Worcester

A show delayed by the coronavirus pandemic will finally be held, and is among the first featuring touring musicians at the Worcester Palladium in more than a year. Bright Eyes and singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus will play outdoors on Friday.

4) Milford

Have you tried Milford's secret French bakery? B. Food, located inside Hickey's Wine and Spirits, took a week-long break in early July, but the bakers are back making bread, pastries, croissants and more.

5) Framingham

New Framingham Starbucks? Kind of. The Starbucks near Whole Foods along Route 9 will go before the Board of License Commissioners on Monday to get a new victualler license. The coffee shop is moving to the former Nissan dealership amid a renovation of the entire plaza.

6) Natick

The Board of Selectmen on Monday will discuss and vote on several proposed marijuana businesses seeking permission to open in town. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

7) Sudbury

A mosquito spraying truck will be in town Tuesday evening in the vicinity of Howell Road, Austin Road, Barton Drive, Oakwood Avenue, Reeves Street, Pratt’s Mill Road and Evergreen Road. The truck will deploy Zenivex E4, a pesticide that kills adult mosquitoes.
