WAYLAND, MA — Wayland will close all public schools until March 30 because of a potential COVID-19 exposure. An adult with COVID-19 symptoms has two children in local schools, and they are both showing symptoms, officials said.

Claypit Elementary and a nursery school in the town were closed early on Thursday. Loker Elementary School and Wayland Middle School were closed on Wednesday after a parent with children in those schools tested presumed positive for COVID-19.

The town has also canceled all non-essential town business meetings. Officials are also exploring whether to push back the March 31 town election and the April 4 Town Meeting.

Schools across Massachusetts are calling off classes for extended periods up to a month due to the expanding COVID-19 outbreak. As of Thursday, 108 people across the state had tested positive for COVID-19. Forty-nine of those cases are in Middlesex County, including in Sudbury, Framingham, Natick, and Marlborough.

Correction: An earlier version of the story incorrectly reported that the parent tested presumptive positive for COVID-19. The parent was showing potential COVID-19 symptoms.
