'No' To Pot Moratorium, Preserving Historic Buildings; 'Yes' To Fields, Trails: Wayland Town Meeting

Wayland voters approved a majority of the 28 articles on the annual Town Meeting warrant.

WAYLAND, MA — While several area towns are choosing through ballot question votes and town meetings to "opt out" of the option to allow recreational marijuana establishments, Wayland voters nixed it at its town meeting.

Article 9 proposed to adopt an amendment to the Zoning Bylaw that would establish a temporary moratorium on the use of land or structures for Recreational Marijuana Establishments through Jan. 1, 2019 or six months from the date that final regulations are issued by the Cannabis Control Commission, whichever date is later to allow time to study the issue and develop appropriate bylaws and ordinances, according to the Planning Board.

It was one of two articles of 28 that did not pass, the other that would preserve historically significant buildings by a bylaw amendment. The article was proposed by the Historical Commission and would have adopted a one-year demolition delay for structures at least 100 years old.
