Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Sept. 29

Expired or unused medications can be properly disposed of this Saturday.

The Wayland Police Department will participate in "Prescription Drug Take Back Day" on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The event, sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, allows individuals to anonymously drop off prescription drugs for proper disposal. A Wayland police officer will be on hand at the Public Safety Building from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday to collect the medications.

According to a press release from Wayland Police Chief Bob Irving, last year's four-hour drop-off period saw nearly 200 people drop off 175 pounds of prescription drugs. Those drugs were then turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency for disposal.

In addition to Saturday's event, residents are welcome to drop off medications at any time in the drop-off box installed in the lobby of the Public Safety Building earlier this year.
