WAYLAND, MA — The town's plan for a new combined senior and community center along the Boston Post Road will be up for a hearing in February.

Plans call for the new combined facility to be built inside a long-vacant building — a former daycare center — on a 4-acre parcel west of the Town Center development. Plans also call for exterior improvements, including new sidewalks, trails and an overlook to the Sudbury River.

Along with those upgrades, the town would build a 100-space parking lot. The new community center could accommodate up 200 people at peak times for Council on Aging, recreation and youth programs.

The town has previously estimated the renovation and upgrades would cost about $4.5 million. The application before the planning board indicates the town hopes to have a construction permit in place by May.

Public Buildings Director Ben Keefe will go before the Wayland Planning Board on Feb. 7 for the public hearing. The town is also simultaneously seeking approvals from the Conservation Commission because the project would enter wetland and watershed areas.
