Simon Says, 'Try Again for a World Record'

The Goddard School in Wayland joined other locations across the country Friday in a second attempt at setting a world record.

It's a new school year and some Wayland kids are making a new attempt at a world record that eluded them last year.

About 65 students at Wayland's The Goddard School competed Friday in a serious game of Simon Says. Of course a single winner had to be crowned -- congrats to Pre-K2 student Ryan McCormack for besting Simon -- but, if all goes according to plan, everyone will walk away with a new title: World record holder for largest multi-site game of Simon Says.

The preschool and early childhood education center operates more than 300 locations throughout the country and most of them joined together in the Simon Says fun on Friday, according to Jan Tiger, Wayland Goddard School director and "Simon" for the game.

Tiger explained that each location videotaped its students participating in the game and will send those recordings to The Goddard School headquarters. At headquarters, the recordings will be organized and submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.

It's just fun," Tiger said, adding that "Simon Says" also creates an active environment and teaches fitness awareness. "The end result, though, is everyone has a good time."

Tiger said she managed to trick a lot of students with instructions such as "Everyone sit down" and "Everyone stand up." In the end, however, it was "Everyone move this way a little bit," that decided the winner among the last two children standing.
