Three College Groups Sing A Capella for the Holidays in Wayland

Each year, the College A Cappella concert heralds in the holiday season.

At it, three top-notch college a cappella groups put on performances, and this year is no different. This year, Harvard Din and Tonics, Emmanuel For Good Measure (Featuring WHS Alum Carly Durant), and the UMass Amherst Vocal Suspects) join Wayland High School’s own talented Muses, T-Tones and Madrigals.

It’s a not-to-be-missed evening, happening Saturday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at Wayland High School.

Mystery guests may be called unexpectedly onto the stage. Jokes and pranks may be pulled on those who least expect them, and good-natured humor and song will embrace the evening like an old friend.

This year the Harvard Din and Tonics will teach the annual Master Class to the WHS a capella groups. Starting out as theDunster Dunces in 1946. The Dunces—an old-fashioned, barbershop-inspired singing group—performed around the Harvard campus until the 1960s, when they disbanded, leaving behind a treasury of recordings and jazz arrangements that would subsequently form the basis of the Din & Tonics’ repertoire.

Todays Harvard Din & Tonics are Harvard University’s signature all-male a cappella singing group, known around the world for their rich tradition of musical and performance excellence. With a repertoire centered on the American jazz standards of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, these Harvard gentlemen — who perform in white tie, tails, and lime green socks — have an enviable reputation for their impeccable musicality, snappy choreography, and hilarious antics.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and complimentary refreshments will be served at intermission.
