It goes without saying that Italy is romantic; tourists have traveled there for centuries to take in the countryβs beauty, culture, and atmosphere. In The Light in the Piazza, Margaret takes her daughter Clara to Italy, to share her honeymoon memories. And, unexpectedly, Clara falls in love with a young Italian. But this is 1950βs Italy, and there are difficulties and differences and barriers, and yetβ¦ Margaret is torn -- although she still feels the romance of Tuscany, still feels the romance in her heart, she has good reason to be overprotective of her daughter, whose brain was badly hurt in a childhood accident. She took Clara to Italy to share some of the countryβs magic with her, and to find her own happiness again, too. But first, she must work her way through this dilemma presented by this charming young Italian man who loves her daughter and who wants what all young lovers want.
