Wayland Begins Summer Youth Reading Blitz

WAYLAND, MA — A special Wayland library emphasis on summer reading began on Monday with kids and teens invited to take part in library events to earn prizes and awards.

Director Sandra Raymond and Head of Youth Services Pamela McCuen invite students to register for Wayland Public Library's "Camp iRead: Read Beyond the Beaten Path" Youth Summer Reading Program and Teen Summer Reading Program.

Both programs, which begin Monday, June 13, encourage participants to explore books in their free time and to participate in interactive library programming to earn virtual badges and potential raffle prizes.

The Youth Program is designed for students in pre-K to Grade 5, while the Teen Program is for those in Grades 6-12.

Youth Programming includes a campfire sing-along with Julie Stepanek, a performance by the Toe Jam Puppet Band, a bubble-making day, a visit from the Caterpillar Lab, and much more. The Youth Program also will feature weekly scavenger hunts on library grounds. To view a complete list of youth programming, click here.

"There are so many benefits of summer reading from increasing comprehension skills to learning beyond the classroom, and having fun, too," McCuen said. "Our library staff worked very hard to develop programming that is both educational and enjoyable, and we hope that students take advantage of all we have to offer."
