WAYLAND, MA — The Wayland Free Public Library may be on a path to reopening after nearly seven months of being closed.

The Board of Library Trustee will meet on Oct. 7 to discuss the building's reopening plan. Director Sandy Raymond said Thursday the library is aiming for a possible reopening in mid-October, although no specific date has been picked out.

"The discussion will mostly be related to working out the details of welcoming our patrons back into the building while observing all federal, state, and local requirements and guidelines within the structure of our particular building," Raymond said in an email.

The library halted lending and closed on March 15 as the coronavirus pandemic worsened in the region. The library began offering curbside pickup on June 1, and has been offering an increasing array of interactive classes and events — including an outdoor internet café.

Many local libraries have remained closed due to the ongoing pandemic, but some have opened. Milford and Bellingham have opened their buildings, and the Weston Public Library is offering 30-minute browsing appointments. The Goodnow Library in Sudbury has begun hosting outdoor pop-up lending events where patrons can browse materials.
