Wayland To Honor Veterans With Memorial Day Parade, Ceremony

WAYLAND, MA — The community will mark Memorial Day on Monday with a morning of tributes, a parade and a cemetery ceremony honoring the town's fallen veterans.

Wayland's 2026 Memorial Day Program will begin at 8:30 a.m. with brief remembrance tributes at the Wayland Veterans Memorial at the Town Building.

The parade will step off from Wayland Middle School at 11 a.m., travel along Main Street and Commonwealth Road, and end at Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate, where the Ceremony of Remembrance is expected to begin at about 11:30 a.m. This year's parade Grand Marshal is Carl Bernarndo.

The cemetery ceremony will honor service members who died in service to the country. Scheduled speakers include Select Board Vice Chair Doug Levine, Sen. James Eldridge and Rep. David Linsky. Wayland High School student Nathaniel Hopper will read the Gettysburg Address.

Lt. Cmdr. Craig Gruber, USN, will deliver the keynote address.

The Wayland High School Band, directed by Joe Oneschuk, will perform the National Anthem. The ceremony will close with "Eternal Father, Strong to Save" performed by the band, Echo Taps by Wayland High School trumpeters and a rifle salute from the American Legion Post #133 firing detail.

If it rains, the parade will be canceled, and the Memorial Day service will be moved indoors to the Wayland High School gymnasium at 11 a.m. Residents can confirm a cancellation by calling Richard Turner at (508) 358-5398 after 9 a.m. on May 25.
