Wayland, MA, Native Wrote Michelle Obama's DNC Speech (And Many Others)
Michelle Obama's moving speech, and most from the past 7 years, was penned by a Wayland graduate.

WAYLAND, MAβPolitical analysts, Democrats, and even non-Democrats were largely a-Twitter following Michelle Obama's moving speech during the first night of the Democratic National Convention.
Echoing sentiments across the country, the Guardian wrote that it was Michelle's "boldest speech yet" and she "found her voice." Many thought it a preamble to a run for president. The speech garnered such respect from writers and professional speakers that sites such as Poynter featured it in a piece titled "8 Writing Lessons from Michelle Obama's DNC Speech."

Michelle's delivery was spot-on, and likely she shared her thoughts and feedback on what she wanted to say at that podium, but she didn't technically write the speech.

Michelle's speechwriter is a Wayland native, graduating from Wayland High School, and then Harvard College and Harvard Law School, reports the Boston Globe. Sarah Hurwitz worked as a speechwriter for Hillary Clinton, but joined the Obamas in 2008, and has written for Michelle for the last seven years.
