Wayland Man Who Died Of Coronavirus Had 'Little Contact' In Town

Wayland health officials are conducting a contact investigation surrounding the man who died on April 2 of coronavirus.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland health officials are conducting an investigation into the death of a town man who died on April 2 of complications related to coronavirus. So far, the investigation shows that the man had "little contact" with anyone in the area.

As of April 5, 19 town residents had either confirmed or presumed coronavirus since the beginning of the outbreak — that figure includes 16 people who were tested, and three who were diagnosed by a physician without a test. There were 11 active cases in town as of Sunday.

The man who died was being treated at a hospital and was in his 60s, health officials said. Of the 16 lab-confirmed cases in Wayland, 10 were in people over the age of 50. Ten of the 16 lab-confirmed cases were also in men, according to the town.

Wayland has limited activities at the town beach and Dudley Pond. Activities like hiking and fishing are still allowed, but stationary activities like sunbathing and eating at picnic tables are not allowed.

Town health officials are now recommending that residents cover their face while out in public. Homemade face coverings cannot protect people from getting coronavirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control, but they may help control the spread of the virus from people who are infected.
