Wayland Moves To Buy Sherman's Bridge Road Parcel
The Community Preservation Committee has approved spending $1.5 million on the parcel, which was recently slated for development.

WAYLAND, MA — An 8.3-acre wooded property in Wayland previously eyed for residential development may become the town's next open space parcel.
The Wayland Community Preservation Committee (CPC), which oversees Community Preservation Act funds, last week voted unanimously to spend $1.5 million to buy the parcel near the intersection of Sherman's Bridge and Alpine roads.
The proposal will next head to Town Meeting for final approval at the spring meeting in May.

Over the summer, the developer Keystone Custom Builders applied to build a cluster of five homes along a cul-de-sac at 27 Sherman's Bridge Road. A group of residents organized under the group Save 27 Sherman's Bridge Road opposed the development, and the developer withdrew its application in October.
The group then asked the CPC to purchase the parcel to prevent any future development. The owners of the property, the Dunlay Family Trust, agreed to sell to the town.

If Town Meeting approves using CPC funds to buy the land, the closing could happen as early as July, according to the Save 27 Sherman's Bridge Road group.
