WAYLAND, MA — Wayland has a potential new town manager — pending contract negotiations.

The Wayland Select Board on Saturday interviewed the three finalists for the open job, and ultimately offered the job to Southbridge Town Manager Michael McCall.

McCall began as Southbridge's manager in September 2020 after serving as the assistant town manager in Chelmsford, which is also where he lives.

Wayland has been without a town manager for almost a year. Louise Miller resigned in January to work for Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. An interim manager, Stephen Crane, left the role in September to become the Ipswich town manager. John Bugbee, who served as an assistant town manager under Miller and Crane, has been acting town manager since Crane left.

The Wayland Select Board is still negotiating a contract with McCall, and will continue that work in a closed-door meeting set for Friday. He earned $155,000 per year as Southbridge's manager, according to reports.
