Wayland Reads "The Opposite of Loneliness"
Opening event for 2015 Wayland Reads program on "The Opposite of Loneliness" by Marina Keegan.
Our fourth “Wayland Reads” bi-annual program kicks off on Sunday, March 1, at Wayland High School at 3 p.m. with readings from this year’s chosen book, “The Opposite of Loneliness” by Marina Keegan. Readers will include those who knew or taught Keegan during her years living in Wayland such as Principals Jim Lee and Allyson Mizoguchi, as well as current WHS student Libby Camp and Thomas Leacu. Moderator Beth McNamara, Marina’s high school English teacher for two years, will then solicit questions for the panel and open up the discussion of the book.
“The Opposite of Loneliness” was published posthumously after Keegan’s tragic death in a traffic accident in 2012. The title essay, posted on the Internet around the time Keegan graduated from Yale, was viewed by 1.4 million people in 98 countries. The book has earned much critical and popular praise after its publication, including the Goodreads Choice Award for best non-fiction book published in 2014. Join your friends and neighbors as we explore Marina’s exhortation to “make something happen to this world.”
