Wayland Sees Increase In Coronavirus Cases

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland has reported an increase in coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of active cases to a level not seen since July.

On Sept. 11, Wayland reported zero active cases in town, but on Wednesday health officials said active cases had risen to four. The last time the town reported that high of a number was on July 23.

Wayland has now had 120 cases over the course of the pandemic. Sixty-seven of those cases are in people who either live or work in a long-term care facility, and the rest are people who either live or work in Wayland. The four new cases this week are in the latter category.

The town did not report any new deaths on Wednesday.

Coronavirus numbers dropped in Massachusetts at the beginning of the summer, but have been ramping up in some communities.

Each week, the state Department of Public Health reports figures for each community in the state. The list of red "high-risk" communities has grown to 17 in recent weeks — and it's likely Marlborough will join the list when new figures come out Wednesday. Framingham has been on the high-risk list for several weeks after cases began rising in August.
