Wayland Superintendent Will Speak At Black History Month Event

This Thursday, the group Our Wayland will hold its latest "community conversations" event with Superintendent Omar Easy.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland Superintendent Omar Easy will be the featured speaker at a Black History Month event sponsored by the town administrator's working group, Our Wayland.

The Wayland School Committee hired Easy in January 2021 to replace Arthur Unobskey, who left the post at the end of the 2020-21 school year. Easy, 44, will speak about his life experiences and his journey to become Wayland's chief educator.

Easy in the 1990s moved from Jamaica to Everett, where he became a standout football player. After playing at Penn State and one season with the Oakland Raiders, Easy moved into coaching and education. He worked as a teacher, principal and just before Wayland as the executive assistant principal of the academies at Everett High School.
