Wayland Water Ban: Town Ends Restriction After Heavy Rains
The region has been soaked by several major storms in recent days, leading Wayland to life water use restrictions.
WAYLAND, MA — A water ban in Wayland in effect since June has ended following recent heavy rains.
Wayland enacted water use restrictions in mid-June as water levels in the Concord River fell. Near June 15, the river dropped to below 6 feet, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The river was up to nearly 6-1/2 feet as of Monday, according to the gage.
The ban in Wayland restricted the use of above ground or automated pop-up sprinkler systems, washing personal vehicles and washing buildings, parking lots and other paved surfaces in most instances. Those uses are now allowed again.
"Limiting water use, especially non-essential outdoor water use, was needed to ensure a sustainable water supply and to protect stream flow for aquatic life," the town said in a news release.
It's possible the restrictions could return if water levels drop again, the town said.
