Wayland Woman Honored As 'Unsung Heroine'

Jean Bates Pratt was honored at the Statehouse by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.

WAYLAND, MA — A Wayland resident was honored at the Statehouse this week as an unsung heroine for her work in the community. Jean Bates Pratt was recognized Tuesday by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.

The "Unsung Heroines" ceremony was created to honor women across the Commonwealth who act as positive change-makers in their community and beyond. Each woman who was honored was recommended by their local legislators.

Jean Bates Pratt has been a distinguished member of the Wayland Codification Committee,
Zoning Board of Appeals, Zoning By-Law Study Committee, Charter Commission and the
League of Women Voters. Rep. Gentile wrote in his recommendation she "has earned the respect and admiration of her family, friends, and members of her community and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts."

She has also served as clerk of the First Parish Unitarian Church, chair of the rummage sale, and member of the Ministerial Relations Committee. Jean Bates Pratt has served her community through membership and leadership in the Next Steps Program, Manpower, Natick Quartermaster and Campfire Girls.
