Weekly Question: Will You Attend Special Town Meeting?

Wayland's residents will have the chance to make their voices heard next week as they head to Wayland High School for a Special Town Meeting.

Last year's Special Town Meeting drew an unusually large number of voters, but the articles up for discussion and vote were imminently impactful on tax rates -- to the tune of reducing the taxation need by $4 million. It's perhaps not terribly surprising that people showed up to voice their opinions and have their say.

But what about this year? Do any of the seven articles in the Warrant make you want to spend the evening of Oct. 3 hearing pro and con discussion and voting your opinions?

Briefly, the seven articles in the Warrant are:

1. Adopt a bylaw regarding the "clearing, grading and protection of speciman trees."

2. Adopt a bylaw regarding "utility herbicide application."

3. Resolve to require public hearings and Board of Health approval prior to application of chemicals.

4. Resolve to "provide more fiscal control through the voted budget."

5. Adopt a bylaw to fund "OPEB through an individual warrant article."

6. Amend the zoning bylaw related to conservation cluster development.

7. Resolve to seek "state and federal legislation to end unfunded mandates."
